Jatra Suru Sangha took birth in the southern outskirts of the city at Baishnabghata in the year 1945, just 2 year before independence. Initially, it was started with Library service and involvement in cultural and sports activities.
After long years we have made our physical presence felt in the form of 3 storied Building as our club House. We even provide a multi facility Gym with the all modern instruments.
Our passion for sports has been recognized by identifying our volleyball team as the best team of west Bengal.
We also believe in taking active part in social activities. We have tried to do that in form of helping the needy people monetarily and also free hospitalization for them and providing free wheelchairs to the handicap people.
Blood is the stream of life working in that ideology we have been organizing blood donation camps every year.
We organize All West Bengal knockout volleyball tournament every year.
We also organize Durga Puja with lot of personal touch.

2010 Theme : Transparency
This year the idea is to highlight Transparency as a theme. In this complex world if we reach to the people with open and transparent mind , the world becomes a better place to stay. We worship mother durga with open & transparent mind and try to highlight our manner & believe in making the design of the pandal with similar thought. We use straw , a transparent medium and its being highlighted by colored wool threads. We create motifs of different form of these and beautiful folk art to ornament the pandal. The iron structures will be placed into the different part of the venue. Different design are used to cover & decorate the iron structure. Mother durga have also showed her self to us in the looks of folk style.

The religious place also gave the opportunity of visiting other Mandirs.
Even the facility of Jatri Nibas was shown to give a complete feel of religious place. The main Mandir on which mother Durga resided had big varanda. The varanda and the pillars of the Mandir was lighted by the beautiful lamps of different sizes.
The idol of mother Durga was also in different style. In this mother was in a peace position acknowledging the respect shown to mother by her disciples. Mother was standing in Namaskar Stance.

The whole area was created in the shape of half circle highlighted by the different character of Disney land. A visitor enter the area by climbing a small bridge and once enter the structure and comes to see the beautiful world of Disney land where you see all the Disney characters under the Moon & Stars. In the middle of the section was a water body with presence of different animals playing around. Mother Durga was made in the style of Village women of Bengal. She was also dressed in a very simple manner of a village woman. Mother Durga was soft & caring form, Brest feeding Ganesh.

2007 Theme : Thakumar Jhuli (On the golden Jublee (100 yrs) of Thakumar Jhuli (Grandmother’s Tale) by Dakshinaranjan Mitra Majumder)
This year the Puja committee tried to re-create the world of old Kolkata and the glamour and the golden time of the Zaminders & distinguished family. The whole ambience brought back the feel of a gali (narrow road) north kolkata. People entered through a gali crafted Emma cutely with the feel of old Kolkata, passing by an old scaling house with Austin car being parked. You might wait a bit to buy a beetle nut or cigarette and might stop by the small old Mandir to say their daily prayer. People gathered at the dalan of the big house where the Durga Puja was held. After visiting mother Durga we go inside the room of our famous grandmother (Thakuma) of Thakumar Jhuli and get the opportunity to see her things and her world of story telling with the illusions. The illusions showed the characters of her stories. Then we climb the stairs to enter golden era of Zaminders through a door of large Zaminder house. After entering we feel we are in open sky with the galaxy overhead with us to visit the Mandir. Mother was at her golden attire in resemblance to pomp & show of the Zaminder family. Mother wore the jewels of world to highlight the world with light. We after this visit of Grandmother’s world (Thakumar’s world) we disappear & reappear to this world by climbing down.

2003 Theme : Hirok rajar Dese (King Hirok‘s Country)
In honor of Satyajit Ray the theme was Rirok Rajar Deshe. We started our journey to the world of Hirok Raja (King Hirok) passing by the big statue of Raja Hirok (King Hirok) being pulled down by the oppressed people of Hirok Desh (country). The journey through the Diamond mines of Hirok raja (King Hirok) was spine chilling and took us to the cell of the tiger guarding the keys of king Diamond cell, it made us loose nerve and we almost started singing to make the tiger motionless but to understand later that it created for us. We passed by the Mogoj Dolai Ghor (Room of Brain washing) and narrowly escaped the wicked magician of the king to avoid the Mogoj Dolai (brain washing). Hirok Raja (King Hirok) used to get hold of people of different background and used to do Mogod Dolai (Brain washing) so that they only speak good about the king.
We all then entered the palace of the king where the Durga Puja was organized on the dalan of the palace. It had all the light of the world to highlight godess Durga. Mother Durga was highly decorated with beautiful jewels. After exiting from there we still had the hangover of the world of Hirok raja (King Hirok). l as if we were really in the country of Hirok raja (King Hirok).
Jatra Suru was duly recognized by different awards.
