HISTORY

The Puja initially started in the form of traditional form by the local residents. The whole lake town contributes to organize the Puja. From 1997 the Puja shifted from traditional to theme Puja. The idea of doing a theme Puja was due to the change in trend. The first Year 1998 started with the theme of Gram Bangla (village of Bengal). In this they portrayed the Puja culture of a village with authentic decoration of a village. In the first year of theme the critic also appreciated their effort by awarding the Asian Paints Best Puja award.

2010 Theme : Rongin Moroke Abaho rachan
Notun Saje Maa r Agomon
  In the 48th year of we on the spring festival, we bring Durga Puja to all in the new art form in the form of wooden dolls. The main raw material of this style of wooden dolls is cardboards. We used left outs cardboards which is easily available and also environment friendly.
Young talented artist painted beautiful paintings of Wooden dolls on Cardboard boxes to create beautiful art forms.
With the idea of Gourango kuila the pandal and the idol both are created with the same thought process. With the mix of different colours the place turns out to be like a rainbow.

2009 Theme : Nepal
  The whole theme was based on the culture & architectural form of Nepal. A pagoda took birth at lake town during Durga Puja. The pagoda style of the temple was beautifully created to give pandal hoppers a feel of fission of Hinduism & Buddhism . The deity was created in the same form of the architecture.

2008 Theme : Sonar Bangla (Jute)
  The whole pandal was beautifully crafted by Jute. Jute is a material grown mainly at Bengal The idea of the theme was to highlight West Bengal and its contribution to the whole nation. In this the theme highlighted the specialties of different district of west Bengal. A separate block was created for each district to share their individual attractions. In the middle of the pandal a chariot was made out of jute on which Mother India was riding with the renowned personalities & intellectuals. The chariot was pulled by 19 horses representing each of 19 districts of West Bengal.
The deity was of traditional form but ornamented specially with jewelry made of jute.

2007 Theme : Rajasthan
  This year the idea was to create the Durga Mandir of Rajasthan. They temple had a different form of architecture and was exactly depicted.
Zalis (window) of the Mandir had a unique style and had been done to create the ambience.
The pandal had a finishing of Sand stone. The deity was made in the form of deities of Temples of Rajasthan and was given marble rock finish. The ornamentation of the deity was done in the Rajasthani style.

2006 Theme : Tantra Mantra
  The whole pandal created to depict the exact ambience of tantric form & mantras. The pandal have been made of wooden barcose. On the barcose different forms of tantra & tantric forms & style. On the barcose different forms of Tantra & mantra wa drawn to create and fill with tantric form. The deities were also in the tantric form.

2005 Theme : Flood of North Bengal
  This year the Puja shown the eternal fight of good & evil. A village of north Bengal suffering from Flood and landslide of Ganga was created. The sound of eaves of Ganga could also be heard. Inspite of bad times the villages are organizing a durga Puja to show their positive believe to life. The deity of mother Durga was in akchala form.

2004 Theme : Glass Paintings
  The pandal was made of glass on an iron frame. Different types of paintings were done on the glass. In this even glass paintings were done in the form of echoing of glass and also sand paintings were done on glass. To fill up the ambience the deity was made of mud and finished with glass exterior.

2003 Theme : Raghunathpur (Orissa)
  In this year a temple of Orissa was created and Reghunathpur paintings were done on the temple. Paintings were also done on different items like coconut shell, earthen pots of different size & shapes.
A unique Sand art was done daily for the 5 days of Puja. In this year Maa Durga was represented as an incarnation of jaganath dev of puri temple.

2002 Theme : Danteshwari (Dantewara)
  This year the ideal replica of Dantewari Temple was done in a smaller form. Similarly to the Original temple, the temple at lake town also had a stone finish. Beside the dantewara temple there is a tree which is of 300 years old .The deity had a black stone finish and had had only four hands.
